Chess Activity Day - Info for Parents

Kids Section : Chess Activity Day - Info for Parents

I thought it would be useful to provide some further information regarding the upcoming day on the 3rd Aug.

St Thomas' will be open from 8.30am so you can arrive anytime after that. The car park will be open for parents to drop their kids off.

We will be starting the event at 9.30am. At registration I will ensure I have relevant contact details for that day and payment for the event will be on registration.

We will have a number of helpers on the day. Glen Trueman and Tim Shanker are the other chess tutors plus Phil Ball, Kim Glover, Alyssa Varlow and Hannah Keech

Phil will be running the tuck shop where kids can purchase drinks, sweets and crisps at a low cost. So if you could provide a bit of change for the kids to purchase as you so wish. Any money raised from the shop will go to Chamber Swim School, a local charity I am involved in for kids learning to swim.

We will also have a book stall run by Kim Glover with children's chess books to purchase if they so wish which will help them improve their game. I have purchased some books already which will be used as prizes to go along with medals etc. I will also run a raffle and winner will be drawn at the end for a chess set.

We will have 6 rounds in the actual competition in the main hall and additional activities in the year 3 classroom. The activities will include a simil competition where those that finish their games early can go and challenge one of the tutors, puzzles to try plus set positions to have a go at and demonstrate they can do the challenge. Any that struggle we will provide a demonstration after all have had a go.

Please ensure the children bring a packed lunch.

Prize Giving will be at 3.15 and the event closes at 3.30. It would be nice to see some of you at the prize giving but if not if you ensure someone is available to pick up you child at the end of event.

Can you please ensure the kids are aware the school has been kind enough to provide the premises for the competition so they need to behave how they would if they were attending a normal school day. We want the children to enjoy the day but also with the additional activities we want them to participate fully and hopefully improve their chess skills to make them better players.

Please contact me if you any questions/concerns regarding the event.

Thankyou

Paul
