Chess in Schools Congress Results

Kids Section : Chess in Schools Congress Results

The latest Chess in Schools Competition took place today.

50 players turned up to Broadoak Community Centre in Ashton for the competition of which we had 11 players from our two schools.

Unfortunately we lost a few, mainly those singing in the choir today. There was also a best Christmas Jumper competition as most of the players turned up looking festive

Incredibly our success continued as we managed to win the top 3 prizes overall.

Jacob Hunt scored 6 wins out of 6 to win the whole competition to achieve our 2nd overall winner this year after Alexia Clancy won in July. His 9th competition after gaining 2nd place in October.

Alex Hollingworth was magnificent taking 2nd place with 5 out of 6 after losing the last round shoot out with Jacob. Alex’s best score previously was 3.5. His mum was very proud of his achievement!

Lawrence Moustafa also scored 5 out of 6 taking 3rd place. Amazingly he has played 4 competitions now scoring 5 out of 6 in each one!

Ethan Lancaster was in a 3 way tie with 5 points out of 6 but missing out on the tiebreak. Very unusual to win 5 out of 6 and not being in the top 3.

Maddison Smith – scored 4 out of 6 in her 2nd competition and missed the best girl prize on a tiebreak

Jack Horsfall – 3.5 out of 6

Mustapha Dia, Adam Hamer and Patrick Shaw - 3 out of 6

Alistair Ward 2 out of 6

William Hardman-Elliot - 2 out of 4 (withdrawn after 4 rounds)

Quite a few of our players have now joined Ashton Chess Club on a Wednesday night – Jacob Hunt, Ethan Lancaster, William Hardman-Elliot and Lawrence Moustafa the children who have been going recently.
