Delancey 2021

Details have been released for next years Delancey Schools Challenge

The intention is do as much of it face to face. All children will be eligible for the Megafinal, so you do need to qualify.

What’s new in 2021

For the first time there is a new TEAM competition as well as the traditional individual competition. Schools get to take part in national and regional leader boards giving the chance to all students to contribute to their team’s results.

We are offering a “Basic” entry category which is FREE for all schools – this registers your school for the competition and gives you access to our digital downloads which will enable you to manage your own intra-school competition. School’s can still order their tournament packs and prizes.

Online Tuition

With the ongoing pandemic Chess Tuition is now going online.

Lessons are completed via a Zoom call and the use of ChessKid.com and a full lesson covers 1 hour.

Please contact us for details if you are interested.

Latest News Update

Its been sometime since I updated the website so I thought I would let you know what's been going on.

Obviously Covid-19 has put paid to most of the usual chess but we have had a few of the kids playing online via the Chess in Schools kind offer of free gold memberships to chesskid.com. This offer has been extended to the end of August.

We have had a few Sunday morning competitions on chesskid for those that have wanted it and we will probably continue that until the memberships run out on a couple of months time.

The big news is that one of our kids, Sithun DeSilva was selected to represent the UK in the recent match v's the USA (only 10 selected out of 27000). He performed really well winning one of his two games. The match finished in an exciting 10-10 draw with the USA taking victory because of the tiebreak match between the best USA kid (Tani Olewumi) and Shreyas Royal (UK). It was great that nearly 5000 people tuned in to the live commentary on chess.com.

Other than that things have been quiet, no school chess or club, no competitions (Megafinal etc went online this year but we have opted out).

In terms of September I do not know anything yet. The kids are all back in school but I have not spoken to Mr Laskey regarding a return to lessons / after school club yet. I will approach him shortly to see what his thoughts are.

Have a great summer folks, please keep playing if you can and I will orgainise some more Sunday morning battles in the weeks to come if there is an appetite for it.

Coronavirus Cancellations

This pesky virus is causing chaos with the chess timetable.

1  Chess clubs at both schools have been cancelled for the forseeable future

3  Megafinal has been cancelled on the 16th May (rescheduled for Sept)

4  Gigafinal cancelled from mid July (reschduld for Oct)

Under 9s Town Team Results - Oldham 2nd place finish

Final result. Oldham finished in an amazing 2nd place without 3 of our good players including our board 1. Cheshire and North Wales repeated the under 11s performance from last week and took 1st place. It was great to beat Nottinghamshire to 2nd place after they beat us last week. Manchester finished 4th, Tameside 5th, Wirral 6th, Staffordshire 7th and Lancashire 8th.

Sithun (on board 4) finished with 2.5 out of 3, Leon also scored 2.5 points on board 11 and Jake 1 point on board 15.

We must remember Jake and Leon are only year 3 when all but one of the rest are year 4 so even more impressive.
