Sholver and Moorside Community Club - back on Mon 30th Sept
After our match at Ashton last Wednesday our club resumes on Monday evening at 6.30pm.
We received a very harsh lesson. We were completely out-graded on each board so it was always going to be tough.
As far as I aware from 11 boards over 2 games we only managed a win from Kyle Dissanayake, Dylan Crothers, Sithun De Silva and a draw from Lawrence Moustafa. Well done guys.
The lesson learnt is crystal clear, you play too fast you will make mistakes and more likely than not lose. I have a challenge on my hands to make our kids slow right down. This is what I will be working on at my club and after school clubs over the next few weeks.
Ironically I lost both of my games on time as 25 mins is not enough for me these days! My 2nd game in particular was probably one of the most complicated games I have ever played and 2 hours wouldn't have been enough to work out what was going on.
Thanks for playing everyone.
Oct Competition signed up so far - 13 so far
So far for the Sun 13th Oct chess competition at Ashton we have
Jess Caton, James Cooper, Austin Butterworth, Patrick Shaw, Dylan Crothers, Sithun De Silva, Kyle Dissanayake, Oliver Cheshire in the Primary event.
In the senior event we have Ethan Lancaster, William Hardman-Elliott, Shawn Dissanayake, Lawrence Moustafa and Adam Hamer.
Chess Group on Columbus cruise ship
A few of my chess group on the cruise during 'at sea' days. Even made it into the daily programme of activities. Yes I know I supposed to be having a break!!
None of the group had played much before and after 3 or 4 lessons were playing full games. I must have been doing something right because they kept coming back.
Lawrence Moustafa - Northern Challengers
A wonderful performance from Lawrence Moustafa at the Northern Challengers (the near miss competition from the Gigafinal). Ranked 24th out of 54 he finished with a magnificent 4 out of 6 and a 9th place finish just missing out on a Terrafinal place.
