First Manchester Challenge Match

This challenged match made it into the Oldham Chronicle as a half page article on Fri 17th July 2015.

10.7.15 - Paul Keech (CSC Chess Tutor) arranged the first challenge match between East Crompton St James' Primary School and St Thomas' Primary School on the afternoon of Wed 1st July.

St James hosted the event involving 34 children from each school. The children each played two matches with many of the games ending with some interesting checkmates.

At the end of proceedings St Thomas' ran out winners 41.5-26.5. The winning school won a trophy and the players with the best scores all won medals. Each player also took home a certificate for competing.

The competition was played in a fantastic spirit and was enjoyed by all competitors. It is intended to run this as annual event with St Thomas' hosting next years with a possibility of extending to a full day.

The support from the Heads and all teachers was greatly appreciated in the lead up and on the day of the event.

Some of the children also did a recount of the day.
