African Adventures Junior Chess Competition Sat 15th February 2020

In August 2020, Xtreme Explorers (including my daughters Hannah and Ella) will be travelling to Nakuru in Kenya to spend a week at a local school helping with building work, teaching new skills and sports coaching. This is a great opportunity for our young people to help some of the areas most disadvantaged children.

To raise money for this I have booked St Thomas' church hall and lounge on Sat 15th February for the African Adventures Junior Chess competition. It will be run on a similar lines to the regular Chess in Schools events. There will be no events between Dec and April so a good opportunity to fill the gap with this competition.

Hopefully you will all support my event even those who haven't played in a competition for a while. Thank you.

Next CSC Competition - 14 entries

Our next competition in 3 weeks time (Sun 17th Nov) includes:

William Hardman-Elliott, Shawn Dissanayake , Adam Hamer, Nathan Li, Sithun De Silva, Lawrence Moustafa (senior)

Austin Butterworth, Jess Caton, Dylan Crothers, Patrick Shaw, Kyle Dissanayake, Lucy Lowe, James Cooper and Leon Li (junior event).

14 in total

Chess in Schools Congress Results - Sun 13th October

An excellent day at the Ashton chess competition. We had two late withdrawals so 10 of our players took part (out of 47). We manage to bag the first two prizes in the junior comp.

Sithun 5.5 out of 6 went one better than last time and took 1st prize. Sithun will now have to compete in the senior event.

Patrick Shaw produced by far his best performance 5 out of 6 taking 2nd place (only losing to Sithun). Regular attendance at Mon club clearly doing him good. Fantastic effort.

Dylan Crothers was on top board in round 6 and a win would have seen him tied for first. His score of 4 was still a great effort only losing to Sithun and Patrick.

Jess Caton (oh blimey!). 3.5 out of 6 had 3 draws all stalemate when thrashing her opponents in all 3. A slight correction in her end games and she will be up there challenging for the main prizes in future.

Kyle Dissanayake scored a creditable 3 in only his 2nd competition just losing his way in the final 2 rounds.

Oliver Cheshire had a tricky start losing his first 3 but recovered to 2 out of 6.

In the senior event William Hardman-Elliott scored a great 3 out of 5. Well done William.

Shawn Dissanayake in his first go at the senior event scored 2 as did Ethan Lancaster (a couple of fascinating positions achieved).

Adam Hamer managed one win but played some great chess against some serious opponents.

Traxler Counter Attack - just awesome!!!!
