Last Chance Saloon Results - 7 more qualifiers (13 in total)
Today we had the Last Chance Saloon (47 players), as the name describes the last chance to qualify for the Megafinal at Saddleworth school which will now be on Sat 12th May. Another remarkable day.
We now have 12 qualifiers (6 today to go with the 6 already through). We have 6 from each school.
- Lawrence Moustafa swept everyone aside with ease to win all 6 games.
- William Hardman-Elliott and Alex Hollingworth both won 5 out of 6 to also qualify.
- Congratulations to Austin Butterworth and Lucy Lowe who both also got through (just) with 4 out of 6.
- Jacob Hunt even though he didn’t reach the 4pts also is through as the best year 6.
Poor Dylan was in a final round shoot out with Lucy Lowe, with the winner going through (very tense especially as Lucy and Dylan had travelled to the event together!) Isaac Blabo in his first competition showed great maturity to score 3.5 but missed out by 0.5 as he had to play Lawrence in the last round!!!
Great effort from Curtis Cresswell and Ewan Finnegan in their first event.

Great news!
Great news. Mr Laskey has agreed to pay the £15 entry fee for any child that qualifies for the Megafinal. The schools are very proud of how the children do in these competitions and want to show their continued support. Not sure how we will achieve this yet, I need to speak to the schools to find out.

Chess in Schools Results - 6 Qualifiers
Today we had a record entry of 68 for the latest Chess in Schools competition at Broadoak Community Centre in Ashton. This was also a qualifier for National Delancey Chess Competition.
Year 2 to 5 had to score at least 4 points out of 6 to qualify for the Megafinal at Saddleworth School at the end of April.
Year 6 unfortunately were placed in the advanced group (all play Manchester League Chess!) had to score 3 out of 5, Both Jacob and Adam played magnificently!
We had 6 qualifiers:
Lucy I, Alexia C and Ayaan I from St James’ (Ayaan playing well above himself to get 2nd place in the year 4 group).
Mustapha D, Ethan L and Maddison S from St Thomas’ (Mustapha won the year 5 competition, his first prize, Ethan came 2nd in the year 5 group). Year 5 made up the biggest group of players.
William HE, Dylan C, Lucy L and Austin B all missed out by 0.5 pt.
There is a Last Chance Saloon competition on the 17th March for those that just missed out for one final opportunity to reach the Megafinal.
